How did you first learn about PULSE

Summary of professional background describe in my PULSE Fellowship Application

I’m an Associate Professor and Biology Department Chair at Willamette University (WU). I received my B.A. from Lewis & Clark College, a Ph.D. from the University of Colorado Boulder and completed postdoctoral research at Oregon State University. I’m a behavioral ecologist who studies avian predators (corvids and seabirds) in human modified ecosystems, engaging students and citizen scientists using Web 2.0. I am a Project Kaleidoscope (PKAL) Faculty for the 21st Century and a PKAL Summer Leadership Institute faculty member. I co-direct WU’s Science Collaborative Research Program and received a President’s Innovation Grant in 2011 to create a Biosciences Alumni-Student Research Program. In 2010 I co-founded Darwin Discovery Day, a science festival and reverse science fair in Salem, OR with a Bezos Family Foundation grant. In 2010-2011 I was a member of an NSF-funded Willamette Valley Biology Education Network to improve undergraduate biology education in the Pacific Northwest.

But I had to cut out Denali in the background to get the picture to fit the PULSE dimensions, so that was a bummer.

Hi David.  I'd be very interested in learning about your work.

The best view of what we've been up to is in a paper that was just accepted by CBE Life Sciences Education GoldeyetalCBELifeSciencesEd2012Submitted.pdf

It's been challenging work, but we're all now seeing the benefits of transforming our curriculum.  I'd love to get your reactions and learn what you're doing.

Best wishes,

If you are an undergraduate life science educator, department chair, or administrator, we invite you to join PULSE and make your department a model of Vision and Change in undergraduate life science education!
