What is your main area of focus or research?
Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL): I am very passionate about teaching and continually make efforts to improve my teaching skills. Beginning this year I have successfully engaged my students in class using process oriented guided inquiry learning (POGIL) activities. These include peer-instruction and group presentations that stimulate students’ critical thinking and public speaking skills.
I am a plant molecular Biologist by training and have a PhD in molecular and environmental plant Sciences from Texas A&M University. I wish undertake my thesis work to train undergraduates in basic molecular biology skills.
I am particularly interested in understanding the role of chromatin remodeling protein family in Arabidopsis. There are 12 members in this family and I characterized two of the closely related members for my thesis work. I wish to study the remaining proteins in this family using genetic and molecular biology approaches.
