would love to see this, but I'll be in Denver getting ready for ASMCUE.
The webinar will be recorded and made available to anyone who can't join live : )
Howdy Todd. Loved ASMCUE and hope to be back in Boston, if the $$$ comes in. So, I've been asked to talk about Vision and Change in our District Micro Focus group in a couple weeks. Any thoughts, suggestions, etc. I've been on the PULSE site, downloaded rubrics for dept and institution readiness, plan to talk about PBL and how I flip in Allied Health Micro.
excellent. I'll be watching it when I get back! thanks for the info.
It's great to learn more about what you are working to accomplish - thank you!
A few questions come to mind as I listen in:
- Who is the intended audience of the workshops? Is it for any/all faculty in life sciences departments?
- Are there specific resources for centers for teaching & learning that would be interested in organizing a workshop on this topic?
- Where can one find a list of upcoming in-person workshops?
All of the resources in the online workshop can be used by individuals, departments or teaching and learning centers. Some of the resources are in format that can be readily be used in an inperson workshop and would require little planning on the part of the facilitator, like the course design unit, where as other resources can be used to develop workshops or activiites based on a theme, like those found in the active learning unit, but may require a bit more planning or organization to convert them into an inperson workshop.
A list of upcoming workshops , including the Western New England Workshop being offered at Bay Path College on June 8th, can be found in the Events link in this forum.
Thank you for your questions and support,
Hi Susan, thank you again for your feedback. I added (and labeled)resources for the teaching and learning centers. They can be found at the bottom of each unit on the homepage as well as in a list in the institutional transformation section.
Have you considered producing a database of "vision and changed" exam questions? I know that this where many of my colleagues get stuck. If you don't ask for simply recall, then what? How do you assess student understanding of complex topics without making it a vocab test.
I like the resources for institutional change and theory, but I think some colleagues need more directly usable materials to get started with a reform process.
Understand that this might be beyond the scope of PULSE.
Some of the resources here may also be helpful:
I think it would be great to have a database of higher order exam questions that address the Vision and core concepts and competencies identified in Vision and Change. We do not currently have one on our site but there may be other members of the PULSE community that know of resources that address this issue.
You all may be interested in the group that has been involved in developing Conceptual Assessments in Biology. Kathy Williams facilitated a workshop on it last year at the meeting at AAAS, the abstract for her workshop is found on this page: http://ibp.ou.edu/conferences/ibp-summer-conference-2012/abstracts-.... There's also an overview at the SABER site: https://saber-biologyeducationresearch.wikispaces.com/Concept+Asses...
Hope this helps!
Thanks Susan, this is helpful.
